来自merlin改进,主要是针对华硕官方固件BUG修正和小的改进,非常稳定,重新启用一些被官方禁用的功能,主要改进查看下图:

- @* B7 b+ k1 [5 t; i" a+ ralso porting it to some of their older models, like the RT-56U and RT-N16.

/ u. r, t; I2 a' X+ t- `+ b( ^. ^2 P, tThe goal is to do some bugfixes and minor enhancements to Asus's firmware, ; r. M$ l2 H7 f- d0 r& _
without targeting at full-blown advanced featuresets such as provided by
3 P' V1 z4 L; n5 Iexcellent projects like Tomato or DD-WRT.  Some of the features ' i( b9 W5 r0 b

This aims to be a more restrained alternative for those who prefer to stay 2 \/ b9 T8 ]) I# `1 a, A9 p8 L

features bring in new stability issues.  I value stability over : p2 F, v% L5 [8 r

Installation

factory defaults, unless coming from a version that used a different
! }& i" a1 O7 b+ X1 i; e1 G7 Mnvram size.  You can revert back to an original Asus firmware at any time just5 X1 J9 o3 m& ^  Z1 I5 A- t0 q
by flashing one.$ {6 e3 C  ~! M( O2 j7 P7 l) i

+ U" K8 e5 k1 B* z. ?NOTE: If you were still running a 32KB nvram firmware on an RT-N66U, the* d- ]4 h7 L$ t8 \9 ?8 s
first time you flash a 64KB-enabled firmware (such as Asuswrt-merlin) it 6 p( S* ^* p( l/ y7 [0 J
will wipe ALL your current settings and revert back to factory default!/ M2 `/ ]( R5 A( Z
This is required to upgrade the nvram storage to 64 KB.

JFFS is a writable section of the flash memory (around 12 MB) which will
+ A8 {' z6 q7 U; d" v) uallow you to store small files (such as scripts) inside the router without 9 f' l+ i! H; u, b1 C; A, @% K. d
needing to have a USB disk plugged in.  This space will survive reboot (but # P" D. g: l0 E) C' d1 Z) j* ^
it *MIGHT NOT survive firmware flashing*, so back it up first before flashing!).  ) w6 q! x/ C7 w' i1 q; [
It will also be available fairly early at boot (before USB disks).

) U$ I6 V1 n5 nFirst time you enable JFFS, it must be formatted.  This can be done through

JFFS requires a reboot to take effect.( l3 D- @8 h; b2 L" x9 w

prematuraly wear out the flash storage.  This is a good place to

that rarely get written to (like once a day).  Storing files that   ]# x- B9 ]& n
constantly get written to (like logfiles) is NOT recommended - use3 I7 B. K7 b& q& p, E

  this script.  This is run in a blocking call and will block the mounting of the / F- J# j. j1 H, d! C. [; l4 ^1 {
  partition  for which it is invoked till its execution is complete. This is done
. Y; ?( ?* t) G, B5 I- n  so that it can be used for things like running e2fsck on the partition before
7 m" l* @, y) E4 @9 \  mounting. This script is also passed the device path being mounted as an

There's a WOL tab under the new Tools menu.  From there you can enter a. _4 B' I3 U0 W( Q- N
target computer's MAC address to send it a WakeOnLan packet.  You can also; o3 k: {* @3 ^: d/ Z& V
create a list of MAC addresses that will be stored in nvram, and on
& p, V2 }0 M  ~6 c& ~which you can click afterward to wake up one of the listed computers, without
9 q% [4 X4 n1 F! a: Dhaving to remember their MAC addresses.1 Y- p0 _" _4 b$ }

insert a RSA public key there for keypair-based authentication.  There + p' J3 Y% K. w# v% _( }5 L

* HTTPS management *

must be named "admin" as this is the name of the system user.

so it will disappear when you reboot).

Save frequency is also configurable - it is recommended

under "Other Settings".  Note that name resolution can

Under Tools -> Other Settings there are various parameters
8 I/ G! A  G& X/ Tthat lets you tweak the timeout values related to connection . x; [+ M0 S5 R% M/ F$ a
tracking for TCP and UDP connections.  You should be careful with
7 r4 Z, b) s' J9 u% R- p- ]( bthose settings.  Most commonly, people will tweak the UDP timeout
+ e+ H( K# u* C9 dvalues to make them more VoIP-friendly, by using smaller timeouts.

& j0 J; m/ C- l# d0 @. H/ ?: p) [failover Internet connection.  Dual WAN is the next step, also ' _4 l3 S* l$ o. y7 j, h
developped by Asus but left disabled so far in their official
- r3 a4 o9 S; z* V1 Q  q# qreleases (probably because this is still work in progress).

The first improvement over USB failover is that it works not only ) Q3 d' {: C4 j7 P( u
with USB but with other ethernet devices, which can be plugged 2 w* ^. i/ \$ P$ L; ?/ m
on one of the LAN ports that you will select as the secondary WAN
+ N7 Y7 }6 j# @, P& @interface.  The second difference is that in addition to failover
3 m- R9 t+ s! J7 Bmode, Dual WAN also supports a load balancing mode, allowing
5 k$ r3 \% x' T$ h$ a( jyou to share both connections at once.

Keep in mind that Dual WAN is still an experimental feature, until

to configure a timeout value (in seconds) on the Tools -> Other Settings 8 y1 d! q( a- p3 N3 V4 k
page.  Plugged hard drives will stop spinning after being inactive
; U9 }, ~$ x. I6 ^" T" |; Xfor that specified period of time.  Note that services like Download Master

OpenVPN is an SSL-based VPN technology that is provided as a 4 r/ W* I" k$ x
secure alternative to the PPTP VPN already included by Asus./ G" D, U' F8 S- M1 t; t/ l
OpenVPN is far more secure and more flexible, however it is
2 Y( f- c! I% B% {# h/ q/ G" cnot as easy to configure, and requires the installation of
2 g7 ~; @/ u" C; e7 m2 ?9 \  B+ Ea client software on your computer client.  The client

Howto guides out there.  I tried to stick to the same option
